Interview with Jozef Budovic
Hello Jozef, thank you for taking the time for this interview. Could you introduce yourself and tell us about your current position at Axians?
My name is Jozef BUDOVIC, and I am the Presales Manager at Axians in Slovakia. My role involves preparing specifications, communicating with modality sales specialists, and dealing with technical issues, especially for healthcare providers. I also handle radiation protection because our company sells, installs, and services devices that uses ionizing radiation for medical imaging. I ensure compliance with the regulations from the State Public Health Institute.
Can you tell us about your career and how you reached your current position?
I studied nuclear physics at the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics, and Informatics in Bratislava. After university, I worked at the State Public Health Institute as an inspector for medical devices. I also worked as a medical physicist in oncology, preparing radiation plans for patients. Later, I joined the Radiation Protection Institute, where I spent 18 years. After a brief move to Spain, I returned to Slovakia and started my current role at Axians.
What originally motivated you to work in this field?
I was drawn to nuclear physics, particularly experimental physics. The same detectors used in nuclear physics are now applied in medical imaging, so it was a natural progression. Medical imaging is fascinating because it combines technology with healthcare, and it’s fulfilling to contribute to something that impacts human health.
Axians supports us with opportunities for learning and growth.
Jozef Budovič
Presales Manager
How did you join Axians? What positions have you held here?
I started as a key account manager, covering the middle part of Slovakia. Over time, we reorganized, and I began focusing more on technical details and tender specifications, while my colleagues manage customer interactions. We are a small team—three salespeople, including myself, and six or seven service engineers.
How would you describe the company culture at Axians?
Axians is primarily focused on ICT, and our healthcare business is slightly different. However, the integration between these fields has been smooth. We understand each other well, and I’m satisfied with the company’s approach to our healthcare sector. Axians has a strong public presence, especially on platforms like LinkedIn, which I appreciate.
Can you describe what a typical day at the company looks like?
My day typically starts with coffee and checking emails, followed by preparing documents. We have regular online meetings, especially after COVID, such as our Monday business unit review. During the week, I also visit customers, present products, and handle tender specifications for new devices or service contracts.
Have you faced any particular challenges in your career? How did you overcome them?
One major challenge is dealing with hospital procurements and tenders. Sometimes, there are issues with tender specifications, and we have to fight discrimination in the process. It’s a challenge to prepare solid argumentation and present it successfully to authorities like the Antimonopoly Office. However, when we succeed, it feels rewarding.
Can you share one or more success stories from your time at Axians?
A significant success for us was winning a tender in Liptovsky Mikulas and completing a CT installation there. The radiologist in charge was very satisfied with our work, and their positive feedback was a great achievement for our team.
What are your career goals for the future?
I want to continue learning new skills, especially with the rapid development in healthcare technology and software. I see myself possibly becoming an application specialist in the future, focusing on specific systems or IT solutions.
How does the company support you in achieving these goals?
Axians supports us with opportunities for learning and growth. We attend courses and conferences, like my colleague currently attending a training in Holland. The company ensures we stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and developments.
What advice would you give to new employees starting at Axians?
Healthcare is an exciting field because of its cutting-edge technology. It’s important to be patient, as learning and developing in this field takes time. Success doesn’t come overnight, but with hard work and perseverance, it’s possible to grow and find your place in this industry.
